Orange County covers some 355 square miles or 227,000 acres in the north Piedmont of Virginia. The topography ranges from steep and rolling hills to fairly level land. Orange County is largely rural with a population density of 57 people per square mile. Approximately 3% of the County is developed, 52% is forest, 11% is cropland, 34% is pasture land or open.

Orange County is rich is Civil War Historical sites, Bed and Breakfast Country Inns  and other historical treasures. An expanding Germanna Community College is located in the northeast corner of the County. Two four year state universities are nearby, University of Virginia in Charlottesville and Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg.
